Background: Brylan Finley is a dynamic mezzo-soprano, vocal instructor, and multidisciplinary performing artist who holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, graduating summa cum laude under the tutelage of Professor Elizabeth Hynes. She made her professional operatic debut in 2020 as Julia Bertram in the U.S. premiere of the orchestrated version of Mansfield Park with Opera Modesto.
Her recent operatic roles include Ramiro in La finta giardiniera (USC, 2024), the Stepmother in The Juniper Tree (USC, 2024), and Jenny Diver in The Threepenny Opera (University of the Pacific, 2022), which won first place in Division III of the National Opera Association’s Opera Production Competition. She has also appeared in the choruses of Chérubin, Carmen, Madama Butterfly, and Our Town, performing with companies such as Opera Modesto, Townsend Opera, and USC Opera.
In addition to opera, Brylan has extensive experience in musical theater. She portrayed the Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods (University of the Pacific, 2023), a production that earned second place in the NOA’s national competition, and starred in 73 performances of Molly Bloom Lately as the title character with the Gallo Center for the Arts (2015–2016).
Brylan earned her Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of the Pacific, graduating magna cum laude in 2023. During her undergraduate studies, she received numerous honors, including the Conservatory-Wide Honors Recital Competition and the Concerto Competition. She studied under Daniel Ebbers and James Haffner at the Pacific Conservatory of Music.
An accomplished and dedicated educator, Brylan owns and operates a private vocal and acting studio, where she offers individualized instruction in voice, acting, and performance technique. She is certified in Module One of the Michael Chekhov Technique for acting coaches, teachers, and directors, and integrates her training in, choreography, directing, and songwriting into her teaching practice.
Brylan is passionate about cultivating expressive, confident performers and brings a holistic, inclusive approach to each student’s artistic journey.
